NRS-3658 | Diary of the Coastwaiter and the Preventive Officer

This is an account of the daily activities of the Coastwaiter M. MacDermott (21 June 1878-31 January 1882) and the Preventive Officer Peter Clark (19 February 1882-22 June 1888). It shows, for ships passing in and out of the bay, such details as name of ship, cargo, destination, last port of call and tonnage. An earlier volume in this series, covering 9 September 1860 to 25 December 1869, is held by the National Archives of Australia as SP 1083/1 "Daily Journal of activities oif the Coastwaiter stationed at Botany Bay". The original Concise Guide description noted that the series was continued for the years 1888-97 in a volume entitled "Journal of a Preventive Officer at Botany Bay" (also held by the National Archives of Australia), but this volume does not appear in NAA's online search tool RecordSearch.
