资源简介:
The purpose of this study was to analyze the prevalence of cementoenamel dysplasia in
patients treated at the René Puig Bentz Dental Clinic of the Pedro Henríquez Ureña National University
Henríquez Ureña, during the period between 2021 and 2024. A total of 6,485
digital panoramic radiographs were evaluated, identifying 435 cases compatible with cemento-enamel dysplasia,
representing a prevalence of 6.7% of the total sample analyzed.
The most frequent type was focal cemento-osseous dysplasia, accounting for 49.20% (214
cases), followed by florid cemento-osseous dysplasia with 26.21% (114 cases), and periapical cemento-osseous dysplasia
with 24.60% (107 cases). In terms of age distribution, the 25-35 age group
had the highest frequency of cases. Likewise, there was a clear predominance of females,
a finding that is consistent with reports in the international literature, although in this case
applied to a representative sample of the Dominican population.
Most cases were detected incidentally during the evaluation of routine radiographic studies,
which highlights the importance of imaging diagnosis as an
essential tool for the early and asymptomatic detection of this type of lesion. The
incorrect interpretation of these alterations can lead to unnecessary or
inappropriate clinical procedures, compromising the integrity of the patient. Therefore, the importance of
strengthening professional training in the differential recognition of fibro-osseous lesions is highlighted.
At the institutional level, the findings obtained demonstrate the need to establish specific protocols
for the identification and follow-up of this type of lesion in the area of diagnostic imaging,
in order to contribute to a more accurate and informed dental practice. In
conclusion, this study provides relevant information on the behavior of cemento-osseous dysplasia
in the Dominican population and constitutes a significant contribution to the understanding and
appropriate approach to this entity in the clinical setting.
