Genome resequencing in Chinook salmon to detect genomic variation underlying life-history traits

Pooled whole genome re-sequencing data from Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) was collected to screen for genomic variation underlying life-history traits. A combined total of 13 different life-history traits were tested for that include the phylogenetic lineage (stream-type, ocean-type, or coastal), the run phenotype (spring, summer, or fall), and the maturation phenotype (premature or mature) from 10 locations in the Columbia and Snake River basins. This work demonstrates that Chinook salmon exhibit extensive genomic variation and selection among phylogenetic lineages caused by location adaptation and life-history variation.
