Ground-Penetrating Radar Tests at Possible Grave Sites in Eastern Kansas

Four small areas that might contain graves associated with use of the California and Oregon Trail segments in Eastern Kansas were examined with a group of geophysical instruments. Two sites contain apparent headstones with the names of the people believed to be buried there. All four of the sites also contain irregular stones without inscriptions that might be grave markers. Historic journal accounts written by travelers along the trails suggest the potential for multiple interments in the vicinity of some of the areas investigated.
