Ground-Penetrating Radar Tests at Possible Grave Sites in Eastern Kansas

Four small areas that might contain graves associated with use of the California and Oregon Trail segments in Eastern Kansas were examined with a group of geophysical instruments. Two sites contain apparent headstones with the names of the people believed to be buried there. All four of the sites also contain irregular stones without inscriptions that might be grave markers. Historic journal accounts written by travelers along the trails suggest the potential for multiple interments in the vicinity of some of the areas investigated.针对堪萨斯州东部境内与加利福尼亚小径（California Trail）、俄勒冈小径（Oregon Trail）路段使用相关的疑似墓葬小型区域，研究团队采用多组地球物理勘探仪器开展了勘查。其中两处遗址可见清晰可辨的墓碑，刻有推测为安葬于此者的姓名。四处遗址均分布有无铭文的不规则石块，这类石块或为墓标。沿该小径出行的旅行者留存的历史日志记载显示，部分勘查区域周边存在多座墓葬的可能性。
