The path to radicalization: How contempt influences choice of collective action

Our project aims to identify the underlying psychological mechanisms of radicalization. Specifically, we investigate how repeated social exclusion leads to support for inaction, normative, nonnormative and extreme collective action. Also, we investigate the role of contempt and perceived distance to others. The following demographic variables are included: age, gender, and education. Data will be collected through the Psychology online laboratory participant pool. In addition, we collect a convenience sample through our own social networks and through social media. We will analyze the data using linear regression analysis. Bootstrapping analyses will be conducted for the mediation analysis.
