Abundance and Coverage of Plant Species in a Grassland Area at York University

The data for this study was collected at a grassland area at York University using a 1 meter x 1 meter quadrat. The quadrat was randomly placed in twenty-five locations in the grassland lot. These locations were randomly chosen by taking ten steps in any direction and then placing the quadrat where we stopped after the tenth step. Abundance of plants represents the total number of plants found in a quadrat. This amount recorded by conducting a quick counting and estimating the total number of plants in the quadrat. Different species represents the number of different plant species found in the quadrat. The data for different types of species was collected by counting plant species found in the quadrat that varied from each other in colour, structure and size. The cover of vegetation is the total coverage of plant species in the quadrat measured in percentage. This data was collected by estimating if the quadrat was fully covered with vegetation or had patches of soil or bare ground. Grass coverage represented the total percentage of grass which was present in the quadrat.
