Places of Interest

These datasets include information about places of interest in the city of Boston. To identify places of interest in Boston, we processed information from three external data sources: Google Places, Foursquare, and SafeGraph. Google Places and Foursquare data were collected via API using a python script and the SafeGraph data were received from SafeGraph directly. We have processed this data to generate the GooglePlaces_POI, SafeGraph_POI, and Foursquare_POI files. To compare how these external sources differentially describe the city, we have used a spatial logic to link the external sources to the Boston Tax Assessment land parcel database. We have processed this data to produce the POI_Summary file, which details how many places of interest are present at land parcels according to the four datasets.
