Salmonella Muenchen outbreak linked to dried coconut pieces. Large outbreak of Salmonella Muenchen linked to dried coconut pieces, September 2020 to July 2021, Germany

There was a increase in Salmonella Muenchen patient isolates in September 2020 in Germany. Comparison of strains from patients with strains from dried coconut pieces, milk powder used for chocolate production and a wild bird (swan) showed high genetic identity by cgMLST. Cases were interviewed and a case-control study supported dried coconut pieces as an unusual vehicle of infection.
