VPRS 853 Applications to Select, Sale of Crown Lands Act 1860

Under the Sale of Crown Lands Act 1860, selectors could purchase one subdivision of an allotment and lease the other subdivision. This series consists of applications to purchase and to lease subdivisions under the Act on the pro forma as defined by the Schedules to the Act.Details given on the applications are the declaration of payment, the location and extent of the land and the name, occupation and address of the selector. Attached receipts give details of the date, place and amount of the payment. Some papers have attached notes regarding the Crown grant of the land.Lands were made available by proclamation of the Governor-in-Council published in the Government Gazette. These proclamations specified whether sales were for Country or Town or Special Lands. Applications in this series are for Country Lands. Proclamations also set out the terms of purchase as well as the details of the land for sale and the time and place for the making of applications. Sales made as a result of those applications are summarised in VPRS 829 Returns of Country Lands Sold and Leased, Sale of Lands Act 1860.
