Understanding electricity consumption patterns is crucial for energy planning and policy-making efforts aimed at promoting sustainability and efficiency. In this study, we investigate electricity consumption patterns across the European Union at the regional level. Our analysis covers 137 regions across 22 out of the 27 EU countries, utilizing a comprehensive dataset spanning the period from 2011 to 2021. We employ a combination of traditional modeling techniques such as Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) and Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR), as well as a novel approach employing Geographically Weighted Artificial Neural Networks (GWANN). Our findings reveal significant insights into socioeconomic and climate-related drivers of electricity consumption across European regions.
