This dataset contains supplementary materials supporting a mixed-methods study examining the socially constructed “malaria–typhoid” co-infection narrative in Nigeria and the role of media as a system of social surveillance.
The dataset includes:
Anonymised Focus Group Discussion (FGD) Excerpts
Extracted and de-identified participant responses from community leaders, organized by thematic categories including disease perception, diagnostic practices, treatment experiences, and media exposure.FGD Codebook
A structured qualitative coding framework developed for thematic analysis using Dedoose, detailing code definitions, descriptions, and representative excerpts.Media Content Analysis Coding Framework
A standardized instrument used to analyse print and broadcast media (2020–2024), including variables on disease framing, narrative construction, thematic depth, tone, and source attribution.Ethical clearance by an institutional ethical boardThe materials support transparency, reproducibility, and secondary analysis in health communication, media studies, and public health surveillance research.
This dataset excludes personally identifiable information to ensure participant confidentiality in line with ethical approval requirements. The authors of this research are from interdisciplinary areas of Public Health, Communication Studies, Journalism, and Broadcasting.
