Pre-service and in-service Omani EFL teachers' beliefs about teaching and learning English

The purpose of this study was to gain information about the beliefs of both Omani EFL experienced teachers and Omani EFL undergraduate student teachers on teaching and learning English. It also sought to investigate the similarities and differences between the beliefs of the two groups. Other aspects, such as factors influencing these beliefs and the impact of the new educational reform named “Basic Education” on experienced teachers’ beliefs. Participants in the study included three experienced EFL teachers (One female and two males), each with teaching experience that ranged between 8 to 25 years. All three teachers had experience teaching both the old system “General Education” and the new system “Basic Education”. The undergraduate student teachers’ group consisted of four student teachers (two males and two females) studying in their fifth year at Sultan Qaboos University. All four student teachers were doing their teaching practice in Basic public schools as part of their EFL teacher training program.
