WATER TEMPERATURE collected from Commercial Lobster Traps in Gulf of Maine and Southern New England Shelf from 2001-05-01 to 2016-06-16 (NCEI Accession 0162412)

Dozens of New England lobstermen have been installing temperature sensors on their traps to record hourly values at fixed locations since 2001. These moorings are distributed primarily in the Gulf of Maine and, to a lesser amount, along the shelf edge of the Southern New England Bight in a range of water depths (1–300m). Variability associated with tidal, wind, seasonal, and inter-annual processes can be depicted at nearly all sites. Given the minimum cost required to deploy the instrumentation and the sustained interest of the fishermen, the initiative provides a means to collect data continuously and a strategy for monitoring environmental change on climatic time scales.自2001年起，数十名新英格兰捕龙虾渔民已在其渔笼上安装温度传感器，以在固定位置记录每小时的温度数据。这些监测锚泊点主要分布于缅因湾（Gulf of Maine），另有少量分布在南新英格兰湾（Southern New England Bight）的陆架边缘区域，覆盖1至300米的水深范围。几乎所有监测站点均可捕捉到潮汐、风力、季节及年际过程所引发的环境变化特征。鉴于部署该仪器设备所需的低成本，以及渔民群体持续的参与热情，该倡议不仅提供了一种持续采集数据的可行途径，同时也为气候时间尺度下的环境变化监测提供了有效策略。
