Dataset for: Interrogation of Chesapeake Bay sediment microbial communities for intrinsic alkane-utilizing potential under anaerobic conditions

This dataset reports partial 16S rRNA gene sequences obtained from sediment collected across a transect of the Chesapeake Bay in August 2010. Sediment samples were obtained via standard sediment core methods. Microbial community DNA was extracted using a MoBio PowerSoil DNA Isolation kit, and partial 16S rRNA genes were sequenced via 454 GS FLX Titanium sequencing.
