MODERNMETHODSOFPREVENTINGOCCUPATIONALDISEASESINHEALTHCAREWORKERS

Healthcareworkersrepresentoneofthemostoccupationallyexposedgroupsinanysociety,facingauniquelybroadspectrumofworkplacehazardsincludingbiologicalpathogens,hazardouschemicalagents,ionisingandnon-ionisingradiation,ergonomicstressors,andseverepsychologicaldemands.Despitedecadesofawareness,occupationaldiseasesamongmedicalstaffremainasignificantpublichealthandworkforcemanagementchallengeglobally.Thisstudyexaminesthecurrentlandscapeofoccupationalriskinhealthcaresettingsandevaluatestheeffectivenessofmodernpreventivestrategiesemployedtomitigatethoserisks.Theresearchwasconductedusingamixed-methodsapproachcombiningasystematicliteraturereviewofpeer-reviewedpublicationsfrom2010to2024,across-sectionalsurveyof520healthcareworkersacrossmultipleinstitutionalsettings,directworkplaceobservation,andmedical-statisticalanalysisofoccupationalhealthrecords.Preventiveinterventionsassessedincludedpersonalprotectiveequipment(PPE)programmes,vaccinationpolicies,infectionpreventionandcontrol(IPC)protocols,ergonomicworkplaceredesign,andstructuredpsychologicalsupportservices.Keyfindingsindicatethatbiologicalhazards—particularlybloodbornepathogenexposureandairborneinfectiousagents—remainthemostprevalentoccupationalriskcategory,affecting61.4%ofsurveyedstaff.However,multi-hazardexposureisthenormratherthantheexception:74.2%ofrespondentsreportedexposuretotwoormoredistincthazardcategoriessimultaneously.Modernpreventionprogrammesthatintegratedtechnicalcontrols,administrativesafeguards,andbehaviouralinterventionsdemonstrateda43–58%reductioninreportableoccupationalincidentscomparedwithinstitutionsrelyingonPPEdistributionalone.Thestudyconcludesthatacomprehensive,evidence-based,andinstitutionallycommittedapproachtooccupationalhealthisessentialtoprotectthehealth,safety,andprofessionalsustainabilityofhealthcareworkers
