THE HISTORIOGRAPHY OF SULTAN HUSAYN MIRZO (1438–1506): A CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF PRIMARY AND RETROSPECTIVE SOURCES

The reign of Sultan Husayn Mirzo (1438–1506) constitutes one of the most extensively documented periods in the history of late medieval Central Asia. As the last major sovereign of the Timurid dynasty, he presided over a phase of profound political restructuring and unprecedented cultural efflorescence in Khorasan and Mawarannahr. This thesis offers a systematic classification and critical evaluation of the principal narrative sources concerning his life and statecraft, dividing them into two analytical categories — contemporary works composed during his lifetime, and retrospective accounts produced after his death. The study argues that only a comparative reading of these heterogeneous sources permits an objective reconstruction of the ruler's historical role.
