Limosilactobacillus vaginalis strain BC17 was isolated from vaginal swabs collected from healthy premenopausal women. This bacterium exhibits excellent bifidogenic behavior and antimicrobial activity. It is able to stimulate the growth of Bifidobacterium spp. typically present in the gut microbiota, it is active towards various human pathogens. It does not possess genes related to antibiotics resistance or virulence factors, therefore it is suitable to favor gut colonization by bifidobacteria.
