Myricetin ameliorates Clostridioides difficile infection by targeting TcdB toxin and restoring microbial homeostasis

Clostridioides difficile (C. difficile) is a leading cause of antibiotic-associated diarrhea and colitis. The spread of hypervirulent/resistant strains and recurrence after antibiotic treatment pose major therapeutic challenges. Anti-virulence therapy presents a promising alternative by neutralizing toxins without damaging the gut microbiota or promoting the development of resistance, thereby reducing both disease severity and the risk of recurrence. Therefore, we aimed to find compounds that could inhibit TcdB toxicity.
