Cebus imitator (white-faced capuchin) is a new world monkey, Native to the forests of Central America and the extreme northwestern portion of South America. It is a highly intelligent monkey with a rich repertoire of group-specific social conventions. It is an excellent model for understanding many traits similar to humans (e.g. intelligence, social traditions, lethal coalitionary aggression, complex social relationships and social cognition, tool use, food sharing, extensive cooperation), but derived independently of humans and apes.
