Tomb of Amud (FA-5) - Mleiha (Sharjah, U.A.E.)

The Tomb of Amud is one of a cluster of five monumental graves located near the town of Mleiha in the Emirate of Sharjah (UAE) that date between the 3rd and 1st century BCE. A team of Belgian archaeologists excavated the this tomb in 2016 under the direction of Dr. Bruno Overlaet from the Royal Museums of Art and History in Brussels and Eisa Yousif from the Sharjah Archaeology Authority. One of the most notable discoveries from the excavation was a lime plaster block with a funerary inscription written in both Arabic and Aramaic script. The writing reveals that the tomb was constructed for an inspector for the king of Oman, which is significant because this is the first historic reference to the Oman Kingdom.
