Standardized air and soil moisture indeces for Baltic Sea reagion 1950-2024

ERA5-Land hourly derived daily mean standardized air and soil moisture indeces (SSMI & SAMI) for the Baltic Sea region 1950-2024. The indeces are calculated as described in the related publication (Peltola et al., 2026, Global Change Biology). SAMI index is calculated from ERA5-Land hourly 2m surface and dewpoint temperatures and the SSMI index is calculated from the level 2 volumetric soil water content. ERA5-Land hourly 2m surface temperature is included for possible calculation of thermal growing season. Daily temporal resolution is used in the dataset by taking the daily mean of the underlying ERA5-Land variables before calculation
