资源简介:

The movement of saltwater from the ocean underground and toward land is called saltwater intrusion. Saltwater intrusion happens due to a variety of factors, but it is most strongly associated with an imbalance of water levels such as sea level rise on the ocean side and the withdrawal of ground water and drought on the land side. The approximate position of the estimated saltwater interface and its temporal movement provides an important tool to assess the saltwater intrusion in the region needed for appropriate planning and management Published by the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD), this saltwater interface is updated every five years since its first publication in 2009. The most recent update was published for 2024. SFWMD uses measured chloride and other relevant data (total dissolved solids and specific conductance) in monitoring wells to estimate the approximate position of 250 mg/l isochlor. Data collected during the preceding dry season (e.g. March 1 to May 31, 2024) by the District, municipalities, county and other stakeholders are used to compute and update this saltwater interface map for the Surficial Aquifer System in Broward County.
