Global sovereign investment in green and social bonds 2019

In 2019, 45 percent of sovereign investors said that they invested in green bonds and 28 percent invested in social bonds. A green bond is a type of fixed-income tool that is specifically designed to support climate and environmental projects. A social bond is a contract with the public sector or governing authority, whereby it pays for better social outcomes in certain areas and passes on the part of the savings achieved to investors.
