VPRS 1976 Court of Petty Sessions/Magistrates' Court Civil/Summons Register

Successive Justices' Acts and, more recently, Magistrates' Court Acts have required the clerk or registrar of the court to make and keep a register of all convictions, orders and other proceedings of the court. This register is the authoritative record of the court.Until about 1888 this record was usually called a Cause List Book and had a slightly different format; since then the term Register has been used.In many courts, particularly larger ones, clerks have maintained several sequences of registers according to different types of matters dealt with by the court. Civil/Summons Registers record details of criminal cases where the defendant was brought to court by means of a summons. (The other main mechanism for commencing criminal cases and bringing defendants to court was by arrest.)Civil/Summons Registers are generally in the same format as all other Petty Sessions Registers, giving details of the case number, the name of the prosecutor or informant, the name of the accused or defendant, how the case came to the court (in all cases this would state "summons") the fees or court costs accrued, a description of the charge, cause or proceeding, the decision or order and any remarks. The column for remarks was often used to record the payment of fines and fees.In order to authenticate entries made in the register the presiding officer(s) of the court signed the register at the end of each day.

历届治安法官法及近期出台的《治安法院法》均要求法院书记员或司法登记员制作并留存所有定罪裁决、法庭命令及法院其他诉讼程序的登记册（Register）。该登记册为法院的官方权威记录。
直至约1888年，此类记录通常被称为案由清单簿（Cause List Book），格式略有差异；1888年之后，“登记册”这一术语开始被沿用。
在诸多法院，尤其是规模较大的法院中，书记员会根据法院审理的不同案件类型，维护多套序列的登记册。民事/传票登记册（Civil/Summons Registers）用于记录通过传票方式将被告人诉至法院的刑事案件详情。（启动刑事案件并将被告人诉至法院的另一主要途径为逮捕。）
民事/传票登记册的格式与其他所有简易审判庭登记册（Petty Sessions Registers）基本一致，需载明案件编号、公诉人或告发人姓名、被告人姓名、案件进入法院的方式（所有此类条目均会注明“传票”）、产生的费用或诉讼成本、指控事由或诉讼程序详情、裁决或命令内容，以及备注信息。备注栏通常用于记录罚金及诉讼费用的缴纳情况。
为验证登记册中条目真实性，法庭主审官员需于每日工作结束后在登记册上签字。
