The Gulf of Maine, home to American lobster, Homarus americanus, is experiencing rapid ocean warming and acidification due to climate change. We evaluated the effects of ocean acidification and ocean warming on early benthic juvenile lobster transcriptomics using RNA sequencing and reverse transcriptase qPCR through two distinct aquarium experiments. Lobsters were reared under future climate change conditions aligned with values predicted for 2100 including a decrease in pH by 0.3 to 0.4 units and mean sea surface warming of 2.89 degrees C. RNA was isolated from carapace hypodermal tissue in both experiments.
