LGBTQ Students at Colgate: Negotiating Identity and Community in Institutional Contexts

The purpose of this study was to gain a better understanding of what it means to be an LGBTQ student at Colgate and to construct a comprehensive narrative of how LGBTQ students negotiate their identities in relation to the LGBTQ community on campus. I conducted 15 interviews with LGBTQ-identifying students on campus. Participants were recruited primarily through Lambda. Some major topics covered were: navigating different campus spaces; talking about identity in different social and academic settings; relationships with friends, professors, and other students; Colgate as an institution; and personal understanding of identity.本研究旨在更深入地理解在科尔盖特大学（Colgate）就读的LGBTQ（女同性恋、男同性恋、双性恋、跨性别者及酷儿）学生的身份意涵，并全面构建LGBTQ学生如何与校园内的LGBTQ社群互动以协商自身身份认同的叙事。本研究对校园内15名具有LGBTQ身份认同的学生开展了访谈。参与者主要通过兰姆达社团（Lambda）招募。本次访谈涵盖的核心议题包括：穿梭于各类校园空间的经历；在不同社交与学术场景中谈论身份认同的体验；与朋友、教授及其他学生的人际关系；科尔盖特大学作为办学机构的相关议题；以及个体对自身身份的认知。
