Reconstruction of the mechanism of problematic authigenic carbonates formation in diagenetic and categenetic environments related to hydrocarbons generation/oxidation

The project aims to study the conditions of the formation of problematic authigenic carbonate nodules under dia- and catagenesis. The mechanisms of their crystallization, in general, are reduced to the destruction of organic matter and/or kerogen and oxidation/generation of methane. The relevance and fundamental significance of research is determined by the crucial importance of authigenic carbonates in the global carbon cycle. It is planned to assess the impact of some problematic authigenic carbonates (for example, those extremely enriched in the heavy 13C isotope) on the overall balance calculations of the global carbon cycle, which has not been done previously.
