Archaeological inventory

The Archaeological Inventory of the Canton of Bern contains all the well-known archaeological sites of the canton. An archaeological site can encompass very different things from individual objects of discovery to complex and extensively preserved settlement and construction structures in the soil. If archaeological sites are located in or near the planned project perimeter for spatial planning and infrastructure projects or construction projects, we recommend the prior contact with the Archaeological Service, so that it can be checked for the respective project whether the archaeology will be affected. Excavations and the use of metal detectors without authorisation are punishable.
