The human oral microbiome and risk of multiple cancers: An analysis of three prospective cohort studies.

Previous studies have suggested a possible association between the oral microbiome and cancer at multiple sites, but these studies were predominantly cross-sectional and underpowered. To evaluate the association between the oral microbiome and future risk of cancer, a case-cohort study among individuals who provided an oral wash specimen from 1999-2005 in the Agricultural Health Study (AHS), NIH-AARP Diet and Health Study, and Prostate, Lung, Colorectal, and Ovarian Cancer Screening Trial (PLCO) was conducted.
