U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Louisville District archaeological collections were sent to the Veterans Curation Project’s (VCP) St. Louis laboratory in the Fall of 2009. The VCP St. Louis laboratory is a USACE St. Louis District’s Mandatory Center of Expertise for the Curation and Management of Archaeological Collections project, which is staffed through Brockington and Associates an archaeological contract firm located in Norcross, Georgia.
For ease of reference, the name provided below was truncated from the original box label, and the investigation referred to as Lake Monroe Survey and Excavation, Arbitrary Collection, 1976-1997, in the artifact inventory catalog and on all final labels. The procedures employed by the St. Louis VCP to re-house the archaeological material from the Lake Monroe Survey and Excavation, Arbitrary Collection, 1976-1997 collection are discussed below. In the re-housing process of each investigative effort, of the USACE, Louisville District collection the same standard procedures and Glenn A. Black Laboratory of Archaeology, Indiana University (GBL) guidelines were followed. Upon completion of the curation management project, collections will be sent to GBL for permanent curation.
