Ruminococcus albus 7 is a model primary cellulose-degrading organism that is ethanologenic at mesophilic temperatures and is a fundamental component of the bovine rumen microbiome. The transcriptome of R. albus 7 was sequenced from ribosomally-reduced RNA. RNA was isolated from R. albus 7 grown on either crystalline cellulose (Sigmacell 50) or cellobiose in a substrate-limited chemostat using identical growth rates for each substrate in order to identify components required for cellulose degradation.
