Stakeholders of the EU ETS - Interviews

The interview were realised in the context of the PLATO project. PLATO investigates the legitimacy of the EU’s responses to the financial crisis. It uses the example of the financial crisis to build and test theory of what would amount to a legitimacy crisis in the case of a multi-state, non-state political system such as the EU. PLATO generates new understandings of the EU’s legitimacy crisis through multiple, connected case studies undertaken by 15 Early Stage Researchers (ESRs).

In my PhD project I examine how stakeholders involved in the public debate on the EU’s emissions trading scheme (ETS) justify, criticise and legitimise it.  

The data is semi-structured interviews with stakeholders. The interviews aim at collecting data on the stakeholders’ position in the negotiations and on their organization’s viewpoints.  

Personal information (such as age, gender, professional position or political opinions) were not collected.  

The objective of this interview is twofold: 

- Understanding the ETS negotiations and the stakeholders’ interests 

- Identifying the social norms the stakeholders use to justify the ETS and the EU 

- Identify how stakeholders criticise the ETS
