XRF data from Iron Age bronze artifacts found at Calderara, Pieve di Teco, province of Imperia, Italy

A set of 12 bronze artifacts of archaeological interest was found in 2019 nearby the small village of Calderara, Pieve di Teco, province of Imperia, Italy. The artifacts are of archaeological interest and can be dated to the Early Iron Age. There are several typological similarities with Golasecca culture items and Western Alps areas such as the Ubaye valley, dating to the late 7th and 6th centuries. This finding is significant in the local archaeological context especially when compared to the "Tomba di Pian d'Isola" found at nearby Pornassio (at 7 km distance) in the year 1914, where similar items were found. Of the 12 artifacts, 4 were analysed: item 2 (large ring) item 5 (small spherical pendant) item 6 (spherical pendant) item 11 (laminar fragment, not pictured) The XRF analysis was carried out at the conservation laboratory of the Soprintendenza Archeologia Belle Arti e Paesaggio per la Liguria with a pXRF instrumentation (Hitachi X-MET 8000). XRF data show that all artifacts are made from a copper and tin alloy, with a significant amount of lead. The relative amount of tin is high when compared to artifacts of archaeological provenance and similar chronology.
