An interesting example of hybrid male sterility in bovines is the yattle (dzo), which is the inter-species hybrids of taurine cattle (Bos taurus) and yak (Bos grunniens). Yattle exhibits equivalent adaptability to harsh environment as yak and much higher performances than yak. However, F1 male infertility of yattle due to spermatogenic arrest greatly restricts their effective utilization in yak breeding. we examined whole genome bisulfite sequencing differences between the adult testis of yattle and cattle with the aims to bring insight into mechanisms for male infertility of yattle.
