A total of 15 multiparous (parity ranged from 2 to 4) lactating Holstein dairy cows were sourced from a commercial 7000 head dairy farm located in Nenjiang (Heilongjiang, China). Ruminal contents were collected from all cows at 15 min before feeding and 4 h after feeding by rumen catheter on the last day of the experiment. Ruminal contents were blended and filtered through four layers of cheesecloth, and 10 mL were immediately frozen in liquid nitrogen until DNA extraction.
