Transcriptomic changes during metamorphosis of the gastro-intestinal tract in Xenopus laevis

During anuran metamorphosis from herbivorous tadpoles to carnivorous adults, the gastro-intestinal (GI) tract undergoes drastic remodeling. Using the African clawed frog Xenopus laevis, we examined transcriptomic changes in the GI tract before and during metamorphosis. Our analysis revealed a number of candidate genes that could either suppress or promote GI tract remodeling and pyloric sphincter formation.
