this study analyzed the relationships between the bacterial composition and diversity of host plants and herbivores. This is conducted in the BEF-China experiment, a large-scale forest biodiversity experiment incorporating random extinction scenarios of tree species, and used to estimate the ecological effects of biodiversity loss. We target microbial symbionts on and in the caterpillar body, using 16S rRNA gene sequencing.
