Research into structural/multifunctional supercapacitors is a rapidly developing topic, since weight and volume savings they provide are essential in a number of applications, including the automotive and aerospace sectors. Multifunctional supercapacitors are an example of the multifunctional devices, which combining structural performance and the ability to store electrical energy. This proposal aims to improve our understanding of the formation of the essential part of these devices, i.e. multifunctional electrolytes. Previous studies carried out by the applicants have shown that the most promising electrolytes have a bicontinuous structure but their synthesis is a complex issue. The proposed SANS experiment will help us understanding the mechanism of the structure of the multifunctional electrolytes formation, ensure the synthesis of the improved electrolytes and device as a whole.
