Siderophore production by seaweed-associated bacteria

Bacteria produce a wide range of compounds that can contribute towards the health and growth of terrestrial plants as well as marine macroalgae. One such compound group, the siderophores, can remove metals from the environment and made available to the plants and seaweed for utilisation. Siderophore production can be detected through the use of an agar-based plate assay.
