The Hydroecoregion is a provincial area of inland waters, characterised by various abiotic and biotic factors, reflecting the geological, geomorphological, hydrographic, hydrological and geographical specificities of the area that led to the formation of certain aquatic flora and fauna.
Hydroecoregions in the Republic of Slovenia are determined by the Rules on the designation and classification of surface water bodies (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, Nos 63/05, 26/06 and 32/11).
