Storm Packing Simulation of IBTrACS Synthetic Storms, in Global Tropical Cyclone ADCIRC Database

ADCIRC simulations of 15,984 synthetic tropical cyclones from the IBTrACS STORM dataset were conducted on the Frontera system at the Texas Advanced Computing Center. A packing scheme was used to simulate multiple tropical cyclones in one ADCIRC run, for a total of only 3,000 ADCIRC model runs. For each run, global peak water levels and timeseries data at select locations were recorded. For each run, best-track data for the contained tropical cyclones is included. Surge profiles are not stored independently for each storm - instead one global surge profile is stored for a set of storms. Since storms in the same set are chosen to be in different ocean basins, there is no interference between storms.
This dataset is intended to support the development of surrogate models for peak storm surge. However, it may be of interest in other applications. In particular, the inclusion of time-series data at thousands of points of interest globally could be of interest in developing models to predict time-varying storm surge.
