As part of the GxD experiment of T1.1 in the project WATBIO, three genotypes of Populus nigra were subjected to two levels of irrigation (watered and deficit). The experiment was conducted under tightly controlled environmental conditions, in an automated glasshouse. Non-destructive measurements of leaf development were made before leaf tissue was harvested for transcriptome analysis with RNA-seq, after five weeks of experimental conditions. This leaf tissue consisted of four distinct developmental stages and these leaves were also characterised for cell patterning traits at harvest.
