X-ray Spectral Characterization of a Complete Sample of Swift BAT AGNs

The Swift Burst Alert Telescope (BAT) is creating the mostsensitive allskysurvey in the penetrating 14195 keV band, providing the leastbiased sample ofbright local AGNs. We propose XMMNewton spectral characterization of 16 AGNsfrom the 22month BAT catalog that will complete a sample of 47 AGNs in 4800square degrees. This will allow complete and indepth Xray spectralcharacterization of the mostrepresentative local AGN sample to date. We willderive the bestavailable distributions of AGN Xray properties includingabsorption column density, absorption complexity, iron K emission, scatteredemission, ionized edges, and luminosity.
