Wildfire Protection Planning

Wildland fires are a formidable natural hazard that can be difficult to prevent and challenging to control. The rising incidence and intensity of wildfires, coupled with expanding development in the Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI), underscore the necessity for communities to proactively prepare for wildfire hazards.<br /><br />To mitigate the impact of wildfires, many communities will formally assess wildfire risk and identify effective mitigation activities. Communities with high wildfire risk may develop a formal Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) that is designed to reduce wildfire risks and enhance the safety of residents, properties, and natural resources in areas prone to wildfires. Maps are a major component of these standard reports, and spatial analysis is required to understand risk and identify mitigation activities.
