Duxbury was among a dozen Australian artists invited to take part in this biannual exhibition of works on paper with a new body of work. The underpinning concept was the individual interpretation of performance and enactment. The work wink, blink and squint related to those in the exhibition by Hossein Valamanesh, Noel McKenna and Deborah Paauwe. Wink, Blink and Squint is a series of three related photographic, print-based images that addresses ideas of movement and pause, to mobilise the viewer into "performance".
Utilising the illusory, transient and obscurant subject matter of cloud formations, enabled a reference to time passing time. To explore ways viewers may act or perform by drawing on individual experiences of visual perception - both physical and imaginary - my goal was to get viewers to perform the acts of winking, blinking and squinting, acknowledged as visual perception. The works combined photography and printmaking, image and text in an innovative way.
"Duxbury's cloud formations and dust particles are subjects of collective currency, and she links these to individual experience and memory by involving her viewers, by being surreptitious about the separation of audience and artistic vision, and allowing a space for imagining." (Curator Lesley Harding, catalogue essay).
Seen by innumerable theatregoers, the general public and art-gallery visitors in three states, the exhibition went from the prestigious George Adams Gallery, Victorian Arts Centre to UTS Gallery, Sydney and Artspace, Adelaide Festival Centre. Blink was purchased by the Victorian Arts Centre.
