Host-microbiome response to hyperbaric oxygen treatment in ulcerative colitis

Pre- and post-hyperbaric oxygen sequencing of mucosal biopsies of ulcerative colitis patients to understand host response to hyperoxia In this post-hoc analysis of a phase 2A sham-controlled double-blind randomized trial, we aimed to understand the hyperbaric oxygen therapy specific mucosal effects in ulcerative colitis patients hospitalized for moderate-severe flares. Pre- and post-intervention mucosal biopsies were obtained through lower endoscopy at study day 10 among ulcerative colitis patients receiving hyperbaric oxygen therapy (2.4 atmospheres, 100% oxygen, 90 minute sessions) and compared against patients receiving sham hyperbaric air (1.34 atmospheres, room air, 90 minutes). In total we included, 5 hyperbaric treated and 8 sham treated patients. bulk-RNA sequencing was performed with replicates and compared between groups.
