This study explores the differences between prokaryotic microbial communities associated with sinking and suspended marine particles using high-throughput amplicon sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene. The two types of particles were collected separately, yet from the same water sample, using a marine snow catcher at two depths of four stations in the Scotia Sea (Southern Ocean).This dataset contains the representative sequences of the OTUs uncovered within the above described samples.
