These are returns furnished by pilots at river entrances which show for each day: depth of water on bar at Low Water Spring Tide, depth of water on inner crossing at Low Water Spring Tide, height of waves on bar from trough to crest, rise of tide, direction of wind, state of sea, approximate width of navigable channel at narrowest part, remarks as to freshes, floods, changes in position of channel or sand-banks, grounding or wreck of vessels, names of vessels bar bound or work performed by dredges.
