Energy Efficiency of Sector MIMO Radars Based on Two-Dimensional Antenna Arrays

The article is devoted to analyzing the energy efficiency of sector radar stations based on two-dimensional antenna arrays using multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO radar) technology. The application of MIMO radar technology allows one to significantly reduce the number of physical antenna channels for the realization of a wide-angle view of space. The article provides a comparative analysis of the energy efficiency of MIMO radars in comparison with traditional radars based on PESA\/AESA and considers the issues of dynamic control of the MIMO radar scan sector. The obtained analytical expressions allow comparing sector MIMO radars with similar systems based on PESA\/AESA, numerical expressions for calculating the range of MIMO radars are given, and approaches allowing dynamic adaptive control of the MIMO radar transmission pattern during radar operation are presented.
